Education Maintenance Allowances (EMA)
The Learning Skills Council have produced a useful booklet concerning financial help for young people.
An Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) is a weekly payment, the size of which depends on your household income (less than £30k per year). It is paid directly
into the young person's bank account. If they go on to an E2E programme or courses which lead to an apprenticeship they may be eligible for a bonus of up to
£500 over 2 years depending on their progress. EMA will not affect any other benefits your family might get. It’s paid on top of any other support provided
by the government, or any earnings from your part-time job.
Get up to date information from your Connexions personal adviser or contact the EMA helpline on 0808 1016219 or visit the site www.dfes.gov.uk/ema
