AS/A2 Levels give you an advanced level of knowledge. You can choose from a wide range of subjects. Some careers and higher education courses require specific subjects or particular course combinations.
AS/A2 levels are knowledge based. You do a lot of reading and writing and if you found writing essays in English not too easy at GCSE you might find some A levels difficult.
An A2 level is made up of six units, 3 AS units and a further 3 called A2 units.
The AS is the first half of an A level and a qualification in its own right. You normally take 4-5 AS subjects in the first year and carry 3 on as A2 subjects in the second year to gain the full A level.
The normal minimum entry requirement for a degree course is 2 full A2 levels although many courses require more than this.
Most AS/A2 Level subjects have a coursework limit of 30%. A levels are graded A to E and only one re-sit of each assessment unit is allowed.
